BEIJING, Sept. 30 -- Xi Yufeng, Deputy Party Secretary of the Protection Center for Memorial Facility of Martyrs (the Martyrs Remains Search and Identification Center) of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs), announced on September 29 at a press conference that the identity and kinship of eight martyrs including Zhang Xirong, Wei Jianhua, Chen Fuxiang, Chen Shenglin, Li Shengcai, GuoJuhu, Liu Yanbin and Xue Gending have been identified.
According to Xi Yufeng, in June 2023, the Department of Veterans Affairs of the Xizang Autonomous Region requested support from the Ministry of Veterans Affairs to excavate and identify the tombs of possible unknown martyrs in Ali Prefecture, southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region. Since last year, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs has organized the National Martyrs' Remains Search Team, the National Martyrs' Remains DNA Identification Lab, and other expert teams to successfully complete the excavation and identification of the remains of unknown martyrs in Ali Prefecture, confirming the identities and kinship of eight martyrs.
